With KJ in kindergarten he participated in the box decorating for his class. They had the theme nursery rhymes. He chose to do hickory dickory dock, since we have a big clock at our house and some wood mice sit on it from grandmas house. He also came home with a big hall of goodies on valentines day. He thought it was pretty cool. This is the weekend Darrell always goes to Idaho to the Simplot games, so KJ becomes my date for the day. Him and I enjoyed some subway for lunch and shopping for a new bike and toys. It was fun having this little mommy, KJ hang out time. We found a great bike that he loves to ride and hopefully will interest him to learn with the training wheels off one day. Something that is fun for us each year with Darrell gone is we enjoy making a trail of goodies leading to a note from the two of us for Darrell that he gets to return home to. It is fun to do something special for him. Before Darrell left for his trip he brought home some flowers for me, and KJ a skylander and treats. He is such a great man. We are grateful for his love year around not just once a year.

Olympics
This year it has been fun with the Olympics going on. KJ is at the age where he is interested and asking lots of questions about the different events, and wondering if the Olympics are on TV yet so we can watch them. He has even said a couple times that he is going to compete in the Olympics. To add to the Olympic spirit we pulled out the torch we have from when Darrell and I ran the torch relay in 2002 and let KJ hold it and look at it even with its broken glass top it was still fun to look at and talk about. We also decided to try our hand at ice skating. I haven't done it since high school and KJ hadn't ever done it, and Darrell didn't even dare to get on the ice so he watched and cheered us on. I spent most of the time holding KJ up, but at the end he started to get it and we made it around twice without holding the wall just hands and not falling. It was definitely fun and at a good price will be worth doing it again.

Basketball/Beyblades
KJ and I started our adventure of Basketball for the city recently and it has been fun to interact with KJ and other kids his age. It is fun to help them start to learn the skills of basketball and see them get so excited when they make a basket. I am really glad our city does these introductory programs before they get into competitive play. KJ also got some new toys this week, Beyblades. Who would have thought that they would be so much fun. They are these little top like toys that would wind with a tool and then pull the cord and let them rip, and they battle each other by hitting back and forth to see which one will spin the longest. It is fun entertainment. Definitely a great toy for boys and I would say even girls would enjoy it to. Another thing we have been enjoying is reading books together. KJ and I got Darrell this star wars academy book for Christmas and it has been fun to see the boys read it together and then to have quite the discuss together about what they just read. It is awesome.
